The role

We are growing our London Finance team (structured within our international Corporate practice) and seek a private credit focused lawyer with four to six year’s post qualification experience. Broad experience across the credit spectrum required, along with strong client and project management skills for our commercially minded financial institution clients such as investment funds, institutional lenders and other sophisticated investors.

You will work on a broad and intellectually stimulating range of financing matters across the capital spectrum, advising private credit and direct lending funds, banks, sponsors and corporate borrowers on a wide range of event driven debt financing transactions, including:

  • utilising unitranche/SSRCF, first lien/second lien, club, mezzanine and PIK financing structures
  • advising on acquisition and leveraged finance transactions
  • advising on private credit and direct lending deals across a range of debt capital structures
  • advising on refinancing and restructuring of leveraged assets

Our clients include credit funds, hedge funds, other financial investors, special situation funds, portfolio companies, private equity houses and other sophisticated borrowers.

At this level, you will be expected to work closely with multiple partners across a range of complementary workstreams. We offer an environment where associates are given significant responsibility and early exposure to clients, with the support of a collaborative, high-performing team.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience at a leading US firm, Magic Circle, or Silver Circle firm. You should have prior exposure to one or more of the relevant workstreams and be enthusiastic about developing a well-rounded finance practice. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong technical capabilities across a broad finance skill set
  • An interest in working across a range of transaction types and with multiple partners
  • Keenness to be involved in special situations and restructuring/distressed financings
  • Commercial judgment and the ability to understand the needs of complex investor clients
  • A proactive, collaborative approach to deal execution and structuring
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality advice in a fast-moving, client-focused environment

About the Team

Akin’s London Finance team, led by partner Amy Kennedy, comprises five partners, one senior counsel, seven associates, and a trainee. We are recognised for advising on some of the market’s most innovative and complex transactions. Our multidisciplinary team is at the forefront of:

  • Capital solutions, encompassing direct lending, special situations and opportunistic credit
  • Fund-level and structured finance solutions
  • Acquisition and asset finance
  • Distressed lending and restructuring transactions

Notably, four of our five partners in London are homegrown — promoted from within — which reflects our strong track record of associate development and commitment to long-term career progression.
